General Motors is recalling more than 22,700 electric SUVs in North America to resolve a tire safety compliance concern that could affect vehicle performance at low pressure.

Recall covers Equinox EV and Cadillac Optiq models

General Motors has initiated a recall for approximately 22,700 units of the Chevrolet Equinox EV and the Cadillac Optiq due to a potential tire compliance issue, according to filings published by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall affects 2024 and 2025 model-year vehicles built between January and August 2024. GM said some models may not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) requirements related to tire pressure monitoring and labeling.

Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace affected tires or update software to ensure proper pressure readings. Owners will be notified by mail starting in late September 2024, GM said in documents filed with the agency.

GM cites tire pressure concern and safety compliance check

The company stated that improper tire inflation warning thresholds could increase the risk of driving on underinflated tires, potentially affecting handling and safety. GM said it is not aware of any accidents or injuries linked to the issue.

The automaker will perform the remedy free of charge. Vehicle owners can verify recall eligibility by entering their VIN on GM’s official recall site or through NHTSA’s recall lookup tool.

Key recall details:

Industry analysts note that electric vehicle recalls remain common as manufacturers adjust to new safety standards for EV platforms and tires designed for heavier loads. Automotive News previously reported that GM has increased post-production quality audits for its expanding EV lineup.

GM advised affected owners to schedule service appointments once notifications are issued. Regulatory filings and additional information are available from NHTSA and GM’s customer service channels.
